Rsync, remote synchronize is known as a remote synchronization function of the software, it synchronizes files at the same time, can maintain the original file permissions, time, hard and soft links and other additional information. It is a “sync algorithm” that provides a quick way to synchronize files between clients and remote file servers, and can also be transferred via. I tried using Terraform 0.8.8 against the exact same.tf file and it worked perfectly. Switching to terraform 0.9 or later causes this issue. After the failure, the symlink file does end up in the target VM but it's a regular file not a symlink and only has some content in it, not the full content of the file that it was linked to. If your code is skipping the file because it is a symlink, then why not print 'skipping symlink'? – bsd Aug 26 '17 at 11:22 My guess is that rsync is older than symlinks. Maybe they just haven't bothered to add it since it is such a rare use-case. I've setup SMB shared folder where Acrosync is logging in using domain account. I was testing it and was working fine, however folder and files I am backing up have 'read only' attribute setup and this results in only folders being copied and not the files as they are skipped with the message 'Skipping Non-regular file'.
